Pennant

Have you ever thought about playing competitive tennis???

If so then how about representing the Melba Tennis Club in pennant. Pennant provides a great opportunity for people to test their tennis skills in a competitive but social environment as well as a means of meeting other people who enjoy the sport of tennis.

Do not let the fact that you think you are not good enough to play competitive tennis deter you from giving pennant a try. Tennis ACT provides grades for all levels from those that lollypop serves and bunt backhands to those who can rifle forehands past their opponent.

The Melba Tennis Club Grading Committee will provide you with a grading based on your ability so you will be competing against players of similar ability as your own.

What is Pennant????

Pennant involves numerous clubs putting forward teams into the various grades so that each team plays each other in a round robin format over a number of weeks. The clubs with the best performances play each other in the semi-finals with the winners playing in the finals.

Pennant is divided into 3 different formats. You can choose to play singles, doubles or mixed comps on:

  • Saturday afternoon
  • Sunday morning (juniors)
  • Monday night
  • Tuesday night
  • Thursday night

See ACT Tennis for details.

The Melba Tennis Club Grading Committee will place you in a team of players of reasonably similar ability. An experienced team captain will be nominated. The duration of pennant varies but it generally involves 8 to 12 weeks. If you nominate to play pennant you should ensure that you are freely available to play the majority of weeks.

All pennant players must be a member of an affiliated tennis club.

Fees Payable for Pennant

The captain of a team is required to collect the registration fee during the first 2 weeks of pennant. There is a team entry fee and a weekly playing fee for each pennant competition.
